Help: Recommendations for Fender Tube Amp Repairs in Boston?

Hey everybody.

My trustworthy Fender Super 60 head is finally giving me problems after
almost 10 years of off and on use.

I can't get the channel switching to work, regardless of whether I use the
footswitch or the button on the face of the amp. Signal is still getting to
the power tubes, and output is produced. I just can't use the 2nd
(overdrive) channel.

2 questions:

1. Any thoughts as to the cause of this problem?

2. Any recommendations on a good repair shop in the Boston area? (I'm in
Newton).

TIA,

Ray

Channel switching problems on these amps can be pretty tough to
diagnose. Anything from a defective switch/cable to a blown opamp,
transistor, relay, or even a defective LED. Best to find a good tech.
Proper schematics are a MUST. In my experience, driver transistors and
indicator LEDs are the most common culprits. Good luck.

Sorry I can't help directly, I'm on the other end of I-90 (and from
there, about 90 miles north).

I can't answer the first question, and I have only a mild suggestion
for the second. I had some work done on an amp by Aztech Electronics in
Watertown. The work was satisfactory, but I wasn't entirely happy with
the way I was treated there. No major problem, tho, and I'd go back
there again. Sill, I wish I knew of some alternatives. There's a shop
around the corner from the Berklee building on Mass Ave. in Boston - I
forget the name, but I've been told they are good and reliable.

This is where you want to go:

Bay State Vintage Guitars
295 Huntington Ave #304
Boston, MA
(617) 267-6077

I got a lot of work done there when I lived in Boston, although never the
same amp twice. Always top shelf work and prices are very reasonable too.

Good luck,
Nate

Thanks to all for the recommendations....sounds like I should call Bay
State.

However, I also tracked down an authorized Fender service center called
"West Suburban Inc " - anyone familiar with them?

I'll let you know how they treat me.

Thanks again,
